Bond of Union 2000 Inspired by the piece "Bond of Union" by M.C. Escher. My homage to Escher's work unites my wife and I by a single rind of flesh. Creating the image involved the compositing of digital pictures and scanned pencil sketches, using the sketches as a basis for masking and airbrushing in Photoshop.
Spiral Hand
Also inspired by the techniques used to create "Bond of Union" by M.C. Escher. This tribute to Escher's work plays off of the same idea of a figure shaped by a continuous rind of flesh. The process of creating the image is similar to the method described above.
Drawing Hands 2000
Inspired by the piece "Drawing Hands" by M.C. Escher. I wanted to put a contemporary spin on his idea, where two hands coming from monitors control each other using a mouse. The images were composited from digital shots of my hands, my computer monitor, and my coffee table.
Dragons
Based on the tesselation works of M.C. Escher. The final dragon seen here began as a pencil sketch in my sketchbook. I scanned the sketch, then traced it in Illustrator. After a lot of tinkering, I manipulated the dragon so it would tile seamlessly when rotated at 90 degree angles.
